The long-awaited moment has come, it's time to reveal the host of this year's Eurovision Song Contest. The one to get the job is the Swedish comedian Petra Mede !
Who would host the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest, and welcome over 125 million viewers from across Europe and around the world? Will we see the traditional couple to host the spectacle, or will one, or even three hosts welcome you to Europe's favourite TV shows? That's always a question wildly speculated on all over the world. This year it's Petra Mede who gets the prestigious job!
Petra Mede is a Swedish comedian and television host from a previous life in the performing arts in Paris and Stockholm.
Success in comedy and TV
Inspired by this unexpected break, Mede continued gigging for over a year in small bars and clubs around Stockholm, using this time to sculpt a comedy style of her own. It was at one of these gigs in 2007 that a scout invited her to join a comedy TV panel show called Extra Extra. This would be Petra’s first breakthrough on Swedish TV.
A few months later, another scout who had seen this first show invited her to take part in Parlamentet. This can be seen as Petra’s graduation to being an established Swedish comedian.
By 2009, Mede was voted best female comedian in Sweden through her uniquely blunt and brazen comedy style and overnight, became a household name. Soon after she was asked to be the host of Melodifestivalen.
Petra was offered to start her own show on TV3 the following year, the Petra Mede Show. Well reviewed in the media, the show featured celebrity guests, interviews and gossip in a luxury New York style penthouse setting, while Mede injected a comic twist through her highly eccentric and extravagant acts.
In 2011 she was invited to host one of the biggest events of the Swedish A-list calendar, Guldbaggegalan, the Swedish movie awards. She delivered a masterful performance and was invited again to host the awards in 2012.
